The beginning of December in Ukraine was marked by warm weather with average regional air temperature in the Transcarpathian, Chernivtsi, Khmelnitsky, Odesa, Kherson and Zaporizhzhya regions from minus 0.8 °C to plus 2.0 °C. In most southern (except Zaporizhzhya), Rivne , Lviv, Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk regions the temperature rose to 11-14 °C.
Fogs, drizzle, rain, snow, wet snow were observed on some days, and in some places in the southern regions there was build-up of wet snow. The total rainfall was significantly less than normal. At the beginning of a ten-day period in most of the country, except for the southern areas, there was a formation of snow cover with a height of 1-10 cm, in the Poltava and Kharkiv regions – 11-15 cm. In the second half of the ten-day period the snow completely melted due to high air temperatures.
The average relative air humidity over the ten-day period was from 63% to 91%.
At the end of the first ten-day period of December in many areas of the northern, separate areas of western and central regions freezing of the soil ranged from 1 to 10 cm, in some places in the Sumy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Vinnytsya and Cherkasy regions – 11-18 cm. The soil was thawed in the southern, eastern, in some areas of the western and central regions.
During the first ten-day period of December, winter crops were in a shallow winter dormancy due to an increase in daytime air temperatures to 5-13 °C. In the southern regions, slow growth processes and plant growth in length were observed in length.
