In the first ten days of May active cold atmospheric fronts arrived and moved through the territory of Ukraine, which caused rains, in some places long and strong. In some areas, the ten-day total rainfall reached 1-1.5 of monthly norm. In places heavy rains, hail and thunderstorms were observed.
The average regional ten day air temperature was close to normal throughout the country, in the Transcarpathian region it was 1.6 °C below normal and ranged from 11.0 °C in the western regions to 14.7 °C in the south-eastern part of the country. The maximum air temperature increased to 24-28 °C.
Precipitation of varying intensity, sometimes with squalls, thunderstorms and hail was observed for 1-7 days throughout the country. In most regions, the average regional number per ten-day period was 131-192% of the norm, in the Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy and Poltava – 211-314% of the norm. In the Khmelnitsky, Transcarpathian and Zaporizhzhya regions, the ten-day amount was 72-114% of the norm.
The rains that passed throughout the country changed the agrometeorological conditions of vegetation of all crops to more favorable, in many areas the atmospheric and soil drought stopped. The weather conditions were generally favorable for the active growth and development of winter, spring grain and leguminous crops.
