During the last 10-day period of February, in some regions of Ukraine the minimum air temperature dropped to minus 7-13 °С. In Dnipropetrovsk, Luhansk and Kharkiv regions air temperature dropped down to minus 14-18 °С.
However, in some central and southern regions the temperature increased to 4-9 °С, and in the Khmelnytsky, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Vinnytsya and Odessa regions up to 16-17 °С.
Rain and sleet fell for 1-3 days. In the Odessa, Kherson, Khmelnytsky, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv and Chernivtsi regions the amount of precipitation was close to the 10-day norm. In the Zaporizhzhya, Mykolayiv, Luhansk, Vinnytsa, Ternopil and Volyn regions the amount of precipitation was 56-75% of the norm. In the rest of the country precipitation amounted from 22 to 50% of the norm.
By the end of February, there was almost no snow cover on the fields in the central, southern and western regions.
In the eastern regions, some districts of the Chernihiv, Poltava, Kiev regions and in the Carpathians, the height of the snow cover still reached 10-24 cm, in the Carpathian highlands – up to 39-100 cm.
The average monthly air temperature in February was 3-6 °C higher than the norm and ranged from 0 °C to 2.4 °C.
On some days, the air temperature increased up to 11-17 °С in the south of Ukraine. In the eastern, north-eastern and Poltava regions the temperatures rose up to 5-10 °С on certain days.
The minimum air temperature was recorded at minus 14-18 °С in the Luhansk, Kharkiv, Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
The decrease in temperatures in some regions of Ukraine halted of the growth process of winter crops that had been observed the day before.
In the majority of the country, winter crops had been in a state of winter hibernation.
Rapid changes in temperature in the Kharkiv region contributed to formation of an ice crust of 10 mm thick on certain fields, but on no more than on 10% of the fields.
