Warm weather prevailed in Ukraine in the last ten-day period of July.
The average monthly air temperature in July ranged from 18.5 °С in the north to 23.5 °С in the south of the country around the norm, and in the Kherson, Odessa, Lviv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi regions it was 1.0 – 1.6 °C above the norm. The maximum air temperature in the south of the country was 35-39 °С, and 33-34 °С in the Sumy, Poltava, Cherkasy, Khmelnitsky, Lviv, Transcarpathian and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. The minimum air temperature at cool nights decreased to 5-9 °С, in the Odessa, Mykolayiv, Kherson and Poltava regions to 10-12 °С.
During the ten-day period precipitation was uneven. At times, a large number of strong local showers, squalls and hail were observed. The average regional rainfall for July in most regions was less than the norm and amounted mainly from 26 to 60 mm (30-70% of the norm), in the Rivne, Transcarpathian, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk and Lugansk regions – from 40 to 76 mm (85-130% of the norm).
Harvesting of early crops completed throughout the country. The condition of crops in uncleared areas is good and satisfactory. Full ripeness was noted in spring barley and spring wheat and mass harvesting continued. In oats waxy and full ripeness of grain was noted and harvesting began. Flowering of panicles and cobs continued in sunflower; milky ripeness of grain was observed in many areas. In separate areas of the eastern and central regions, the plants were mowed for green fodder. The condition of the crops is mostly good. In some places in the eastern and central regions damage by agricultural pests was noted, and in the southern, central and northeastern regions drying, yellowing of the leaves from drought was noted. Over the course of a ten-day period, the formation of baskets continued in sunflower, and seed maturation in certain areas of the southern, central and eastern regions. Daytime wilting, drying and yellowing of plants was noted due to arid conditions In some areas of the Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk, Mykolayiv and Chernihiv regions
