At the beginning of January, very warm weather was observed in Ukraine, especially at the beginning of the ten-day period, when throughout the territory daytime temperatures rose to 5-9 °С, and in the south up to 10-15 °С. The average daily temperatures exceeded the norm by 5-12 ° C. The movement of cyclones and their atmospheric fronts through Ukraine caused precipitation throughout the entire territory, mainly in the form of rain and sleet, in some areas there was build-up of wet snow, ice, gusty wind.
The average regional air temperature over the ten-day period was 4.8-7.3 °C above the norm and ranged from 0.2 °C in the north to 4.2 °C in the southernmost.
The minimum air temperature dropped to minus 2-7 °С, in the Zaporizhzhya region to minus 8 °С.The maximum air temperature increased to 5-10 °С, in the southern regions to 11-15 °С.
Precipitation within 1-7 days was noted in the form of drizzle, rain, snow and sleet throughout the country. The average regional ten-day rainfall in most regions ranged from 125 to 245% (15-35 mm). In the Ternopil, Chernivtsi, Odesa, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Luhansk regions, their number over a ten-day period was close to the norm and amounted to 12-19 mm. In the Mykolayiv and Sumy regions the amount of precipitation was 69-72% of the norm (11-13 mm).
As of January 10, in the eastern, northern, western, in some places in the Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions, the height of the snow cover did not exceed 1-10 cm. There was no snow in the rest of the territory.
During the ten-day period, winter crops were in a state of shallow winter dormancy, no threatening conditions for the overwintering of winter crops and fruit crops were observed across the country. In the southern regions, due to very warm weather, there was a weak renewal of growth processes on the crops of wintering crops.
