During the first ten days of March, non-uniform weather was observed in Ukraine. The average regional ten-day air temperature was close to the norm in the Transcarpathian region, in the rest of the country – by 1.4-2.5 °С, in the Luhansk, Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Odesa and Chernivtsi regions – by 2.6-3.2 °C above the norm and ranged from minus 2.3 °C in the northeast to plus 4.5 °C in the extreme south of the country. The minimum air temperature dropped to minus 6-11 °С, in the Cherkasy, Kyiv, Chernigiv, Sumy, Kharkiv and Luhansk regions – to minus 12-17 °С.The maximum air temperature reached 11-16 °С, and in the eastern, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Chernigiv and Volyn regions – 8-10 °С.
Slight precipitation was noted for 1-4 days almost throughout the country in the form of snow, sleet, rain.
Snow cover as of March 10 with a height of 7-15 cm was noted only in certain areas of the Sumy and Chernigiv regions. In the rest of the country, there was no snow in the fields or its height did not exceed 1 cm.
During the ten-day period, no adverse events for the sowing of wintering crops were observed. As of March 10, winter crops (rye, barley, wheat) in most of the territory were still in a state of winter dormancy. In those areas of the Mykolayiv, Kherson and Transcarpathian regions, where the vegetation of winter crops was noted the day before, the crops were in tillering phases and 3rd leaf. The state of the crops was assessed as mostly good and satisfactory.
