During the second ten-day period of July in Ukraine there were periods of hot weather and periods of short intense decreases in air temperature (average daily by 7-10 °C, maximum – by 10-15 °C) with the movement of cold atmospheric fronts. Cooling in some areas was accompanied by rains of varying intensity and quantity, thunderstorms, hail and squall wind intensification.
The average ten-day air temperature turned out to be close to the norm, only in the Transcarpathia it was 1.3 °C below the norm and ranged from 17.3 °C in the west to 23.5 °C in the south of the country. The maximum air temperature during the day increased to 30-34 °С, in some areas of the Kherson, Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk and Luhansk regions within one day it reached 35 °С. The number of days with a maximum temperature of 30 °С and above was 1-4, in the southern and Dnipropetrovsk regions – 6-8 days.
Precipitation of varying intensity, at times in the form of rainstorms, in places with thunderstorms and squalls, were observed almost throughout the country for 1-5 days. Their average regional number in the Mykolaiv, Kherson, Donetsk, Cherkasy, Vinnytsya, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Khmelnitskyi and Chernivtsi regions did not exceed 10-47% of the norm (2 18 mm), and in the Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovograd, Chernigiv, Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk regions – 52-80% of the ten-day norm (11-24 mm). The amount of precipitation in the Volyn, Transcarpathian, Poltava and Zaporizhzhya regions was close and slightly above the norm. The largest amount of precipitation over a ten-day period was noted in the Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Rivne and Lviv regions – 34-64 mm (152 212% of the ten-day norm), the least – in the Mykolayiv region with only 2 mm.
The grain of winter crops in the west, north, in the Cherkasy and Vinnytsya regions has reached waxy or full ripeness. The rest of the country continued to harvest winter crops. The state of winter crops in unharvested areas is good and satisfactory.
