In the last ten days of the summer of 2021, Ukraine experienced uneven weather across the territory. In the western part of the country, with the movement of atmospheric fronts, cooler ordinary weather prevailed. It was predominantly hot in the eastern part of the country. It rained over almost the entire territory of the country, mainly in the form of intense downpours with thunderstorms and in some places with hail. There was no precipitation in the southern and southeastern regions.
The average regional ten-day air temperature in the western, Vinnytsya and Zhytomyr regions turned out to be 1.0-2.9°C below the norm and amounted to 14.7-17.5 °C. In the rest of the country, the average regional air temperature for a ten-day period was close or 1.7-3.4 °C above the norm and ranged from 18.2 °C in the north to 23.8 °C in the south of the country. The maximum air temperature in the western and northern regions reached 24-30 °С, in the rest of the country to 31-36 °С.
Precipitation of varying intensity was observed for 1-8 days almost throughout the country. In the southern, Donetsk regions, certain areas of Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovograd regions, there was no precipitation or their amount did not exceed 1-8 mm (8-50% of the norm). In the Luhansk, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Cherkasy regions, the average precipitation amounted to 71-106% of the norm (10-20 mm). In the Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytsky, Rivne, Volyn, Lviv and Transcarpathian regions, the ten-day amount of precipitation ranged from 224 to 360% of the norm (from 41 to 72 mm). In the rest of the country, the amount of precipitation ranged from 120 to 200% of the norm (from 21 to 48 mm).
Agrometeorological conditions for the completion of the vegetation of late agricultural crops were heterogeneous. In the western and northern regions, agrometeorological conditions were satisfactory for the maturation of late industrial crops, the accumulation of productive moisture in the fields intended for winter crops. However, frequent rains, heavy downpours in many areas, squalls and hail led to a local state of late crops, mechanical damage to plants, the development and spread of diseases, harvesting became more difficult, and field work stopped completely in some places. In the central and eastern regions, agrometeorological conditions were quite satisfactory for the completion of the growing season of late agricultural crops. Thanks to the rains, the conditions for the accumulation of productive moisture in the upper layers of the soil in the areas intended for sowing winter crops and already sown winter rapeseed for the 2022 crop have improved. In the southern regions, the agrometeorological conditions for the completion of the growing season and the maturation of late heat-loving crops were satisfactory. However, the lack of effective precipitation causes a lack of moisture in the soil, which is a negative factor for the preparation of areas for sowing winter crops of the 2022 harvest.
