In the first and second ten-day periods of August, moderate temperatures prevailed on average in most regions. With the movement within the second ten-day period of the cold atmospheric front from the northwest, unstable weather with active thunderstorm activity was observed in many areas, a significant decrease in air temperature occurred, heavy rains, hailstorms, and squalls were noted. Only in the east of the country, where the atmospheric front did not spread its influence until the end of the second ten-day period, hot and almost dry weather persisted, heavy rains in some areas of these regions were observed only in the last days.
The average regional ten-day air temperature in most regions turned out to be close to the norm, in the Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Poltava, Kharkiv and Luhansk regions it was 1.1-2.6 °C above it and ranged from 18.8 in the west to 23 .9 °С in the east of the country. The maximum air temperature rose to 31-35°С, in the Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv and Lughansk regions – up to 36-37°С.
Precipitation of different amounts and intensity was observed almost throughout the country for 1-3 days, in some areas of the Volyn, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhya regions for 4-5 days.
The agrometeorological conditions of the past ten-day period for the completion of the growing season of late agricultural crops were generally satisfactory. In areas where precipitation was noted, the conditions for the accumulation of productive moisture in the soil improved in the areas intended for sowing winter crops for the 2022 harvest. In areas where heavy rains came, harvesting became more difficult, in some periods field work stopped completely in some places. In most areas of the eastern, in some areas of the central and northern regions, where there was a shortage of effective precipitation against the background of an elevated temperature regime, there was a deterioration in the moisture supply of the tilth-top layer, in some places the soil was completely dry. During the ten-day period, the preparation of the soil for sowing winter crops and sowing winter rapeseed continued.
