In the third ten-day period of March, an unstable temperature regime was observed in Ukraine with significant fluctuations in average daily temperatures – from the lowest norm by 3-5 °C in the first half of the ten-day period to 3-7 °C exceeding the norm at the end of the month.
The average regional ten-day air temperature in most of the country was in the northern, Cherkasy, Poltava and Volyn regions by 1.0 – 1.7 °C above the norm, in the Transcarpathia – 1.3 °C below it and ranged from 3.0 °С in the east to 4.5 ° in the west of the country.
The minimum air temperature dropped to minus 4-8 °С, and in the Poltava region – to minus 2 °С.
The maximum air temperature on the warmest days reached 14-19 °С, in the Volyn, Odesa and Transcarpathian regions – 20-21 °С.
Precipitation of varying amounts and intensity was noted throughout the country for 1-7 days in the form of rain, snow and sleet. Their average regional number in the Kharkiv, Poltava, Cherkasy, Sumy, Chernigiv, Kyiv, Chernivtsi and Transcarpathian regions was 17-43% of the norm (2-6 mm), in the Kirovohrad, Lviv and Volyn regions – 54-62% (7-9 mm). In the Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Khmelnytsky, Vinnytsya and Odesa regions the ten-day rainfall was close to normal (9-14 mm), in the rest of the territory it was 123-169% of the norm (15-22 mm), and in the Donetsk region – 208% of the norm (27 mm).
According to the first definition, the reserves of productive moisture, the tilth-top soil under winter crops was well or excessively moistened.
In the last days of the ten-day period, there was a growing season of winter crops (wheat, barley, rye) almost throughout the country. The crops were in the tillering phases, the formation of nodal roots, 3rd leaf. There are stairs in separate areas of the eastern, northern and western regions. The condition of the crops was assessed as mostly good.
