With winterkill insurance, you insure the amount you invest, from seeding till the renewal of vegetation. It can include any expense like seeds, crop protection, fuel, labor, land lease or amortization.
The amount of what can be included differs little from one insurance company to another. However a point to pay attention to is the amount of indemnity that is paid out in case of loss. It differs depending on the insurance company and can have a significant impact on the payout:
- Variant 1: The indemnity paid out is based on the factual amount of expenses that occurred until the time of the loss (justified by accounting documentation).
- Variant 2: The indemnity paid out is the full amount of the planned expenses for the whole covered period, whatever the factual amount is at the time of the loss.
The variant 2. is always more beneficial (or at least equal) for the insured than variant 1., so check your contract!
